A special law on renewable sources in Serbia is coming soon

, News

The Minister of Mining and Energy, Zorana Mihajlovic, said that the regulation on renewable energy sources is a complete novelty because those sources are now part of the Law on Energy.

– When people in the Ministry are asked, it is said that almost 27 percent of production is from renewable energy sources, but there are also large hydropower plants, and, when they are excluded, what is biomass, geothermal energy, solar energy … about some 4.5 percent, and that is really very little in relation to all other countries and in relation to the potential that Serbia has – said Zorana Mihajlovic. – Our country has a huge potential in biomass, geothermal sources, solar energy, but obviously it has not used it so far. With the mentioned law, we will try to create a space and environment for renewable energy sources to be used much more.

She explained that the current system of feed-in tariffs will be changed and that auctions for energy from renewable sources will be introduced.

This, in fact, means that it will not be like before – no matter how much is produced, the state pays after that energy is put on the network, but there will be so-called auctions, which exist everywhere in the world – and it means that there is competition between those who they produce energy from renewable energy sources – said Zorana Mihajlovic. According to her, special attention will be paid to cogeneration, ie the production of both electricity and heat at the same time, because it is, above all, very efficient. Zorana Mihajlovic pointed out that many laws in the field of energy and mining in Serbia have not been changed for more than six and seven years, and that a lot has changed during that time.

– Now we are talking about energy and the environment as something that goes together, and seven years ago it was not like that – said the minister. – All laws in these areas will be completely changed in order to adapt to the new “green” agendas.

According to her, the amendments to the law will create space for the complete digitalization of everything that is happening in the Ministry of Mining and Energy. She also mentioned that the plan is to get the least money into the fund from the budget, and much more from all international funds that we can provide.
