Albania signs contract with Ayen Enerji & Fusha for 120 MW HPP
, NewsThe Albanian energy ministry said it has signed a concession contract with Turkish-Albanian consortium Ayen Enerji & Fusha for the construction and operation of a 120 MW hydro power plant in the south of Albania.
The estimated cost of the Kalivac HPP is 125.3 million euro ($147.4 million) and the construction works will last two and a half years, the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
Annual electricity production at the hydro power plant, to be located near Kalivac village, is projected at 366.6 million kWh.
In October, Turkish-Albanian consortium Ayen Enerji & Fusha won a 35-year concession contract for construction and operation of the HPP in tender opened in May that year.
The tender was opened after the ministry cancelled a contract with the previous concessionaire, Italian company BEG, which was obliged to build a 108 MW HPP by 2012. However, BEG failed to do the job as it was entangled in a series of lawsuits with Albanian subcontractors, according to local media reports.
Hydro power plants generate 98% of Albania’s electricity output.
