Albania’s KESH is looking for a consultant for a floating PV plant financed by the EBRD
, NewsThe Albanian Electric Power Corporation KESH has issued a public call to companies interested in providing technical support during the construction and commissioning of a floating photovoltaic power plant. The deadline for submitting bids is May 17, it is stated in the announcement published on the KESH website. The Corporation states that it intends to use a loan / grant managed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to finance the contract.
The EBRD announced earlier this month that it would approve a 9.1m-euro loan to Albania’s KESH corporation to build a floating PV power plant. The loan approved on a commercial basis will enable the financing of the construction of a 12.9 MW floating solar power plant, the first floating PV plant of this size in Albania and the Western Balkans, which will contribute to the commercialization of KESH, the EBRD announced.
The plant will be located on the surface of the Wow and Dejes hydroelectric power plant accumulation, in the northern part of the country.
The new power plant will contribute to KESH becoming more resistant to climate risks related to hydrology, the EBRD estimated.
KESH owns and operates three large hydropower plants with a total capacity of 1,350 MW, which produce close to 70% of Albania’s electricity.
The bank noted that the project coincided with Albania’s broader ambition to develop its solar capacity, resulting in the realization of two successful EBRD-supported tenders: the 140 MW Karavasta project and the 100 MW Spitalle project.
“The project is outstanding because of its innovative technology, positive impact on the environment and commercial logic. It also has the potential to replicate in the wider Western Balkans region, which has many hydropower reservoirs, “said Francesco Corbo, the EBRD’s regional head of energy for the Western Balkans.
