Bosnian Minister spoke about harmfulness of nuclear waste disposal plan at IAEA assembly in Vienna
, NewsThe Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH, Bisera Turković, spoke about the construction of a nuclear waste dump on Trgovska Gora at the session of the 64th General Assembly of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which was held in Vienna.
The Minister accused Croatia of endangering the rights of BiH and the lives of its citizens living along the Una River by announcing the construction of a nuclear waste dump on Trgovska Gora, the ministry said.
As it is stated, she said that the project, if it was realized on the border with BiH, would endanger the lives of up to 300,000 people.
“This potential location for nuclear waste threatens to leak into the groundwater that flows into the Una River, on which the population of northern BiH relies existentially.” “The State Regulatory Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety of Bosnia and Herzegovina believes that the proposed site on Trgovska Gora poses a high risk for potential earthquakes, landslides and floods,” said Turkovic.
She pointed out that areas like this do not meet international standards for the construction of such a nuclear waste facility.
It infected the help of the European Union and the International Atomic Energy Agency “in order to help Croatia find a safe and suitable place for its nuclear waste.”
The authorities of the Croatian municipality of Dvor also oppose the construction.
