Construction of 10 MW Velika Ciglena geothermal plant in full swing in Croatia
, NewsConstruction is under way for the 10 MW Velika Ciglena geothermal power plant in Croatia. The project is developed by Turkish MB Holding and Croatian GEOEN.
About 25 years ago in Velika Ciglena in Croatia, drilling discovered a geothermal resource. Now on this site, a 10 MW geothermal power plant is in construction. The plant will also feature a small-scale thermal plant that can supply heat to around 2,300 households, according to project manager Dragutin Domitrovic.
The project has been in development for now about 10 years and Turkish investors have been investing around EUR 35 million. The project is now a joint venture between Turkish MB Holding and Croatian GEOEN.
With 170 degrees Celsius this geothermal source is the hottest in the region. The developer expects the plant to start working in several months and hot water from the plant could then also be used for heating greenhouses or fish farms in the future.
