EU funds available for Greece’s decarbonization process
, NewsThese EU funds to be made available are estimated to reach at least 600 million euros. They will be provided through the new National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) for the 2021-2027 period for the country’s decarbonization effort .
The NSRF amount is expected to be double the 300 million euros which Greece will receive through the Just Transition Fund, also for decarbonization projects. The national contribution, expected to range between 10 and 20 %, or roughly 150 million euros, will take the overall decarbonization amount to about one or 1.1 billion euros.
These funds will be used to fund a smooth post-lignite transition for Greece’s west Macedonia region in the country’s north and Megalopoli in the Peloponnese, both lignite-dependent local economies.
