In Serbia, the deadline for the closure of the landfill and the opening of a new one has been exceeded
, NewsThe CLSI Center for Local Self-Government states that on January 31, the foreign concessionaire was supposed to start rehabilitating the old landfill and put the new one into operation, but that did not happen “due to delays by the City and the bursting of the dam for existing waste.” “The deadline for closing the previous one and opening a new city landfill in Vinca has been broken.”
“In practice, that means that the air in Belgrade will continue to pollute emissions of ash, but also smoke due to methane fires, all despite a signed contract with a foreign concessionaire of one billion euros and increased fees for waste collection and treatment.” It is also unclear why the City plans to open its landfills for construction waste in Krnjaca, Surcin and Umka, when according to the mentioned contract, the processing of that waste was the obligation of the concessionaire “, said CLS.
The statement states that “all this shows that the PPP for waste processing in Vinca is a problematic project, related to many financial and practical controversial matters, which CLS, councilors and the professional public have warned about from the beginning.”
