Public debate on the concession for Montenegro’s HPP Komarnica extended
, NewsThe original deadline for submitting comments and suggestions on the Draft Concession expired on August 14. The Montenegrin Ministry of Economy extended the public debate on the Draft Concession Act for the project of the Komarnica hydroelectric power plant.
According to the website, the Ministry extended the public debate on the initiative of the informal network of non-governmental organizations Coalition 27, which requested an extension of 30 days, reports the MINA-business agency.
“Bearing in mind that public discussions on various aspects of the Komarnica HPP construction project were held on several occasions as part of the preparation of numerous strategic documents, and especially considering the fact that the public discussion on the Draft Detailed Spatial Plan for the Multipurpose Reservoir on the Komarnica River strategic assessment of the impact on the environment, conducted in the period from November 6 to December 17 last year, was assessed as appropriate to extend the deadline for consultations with stakeholders for another seven days, “said the Ministry.
They stated that it is important to remind that a wide participation of stakeholders is envisaged in the next phases of implementation, and from the point of view of standards and values in the field of environmental protection, a particularly important segment will be the public debate on the Environmental Impact Assessment Study.
“Having in mind the comments already received, previous, current and future public hearings related to the construction project of HPP Komarnica, it is quite certain that the process of public consultations lasting over 150 days will enable adequate participation of stakeholders and provide preconditions for decision making in the best in the interest of Montenegro and its citizens “, concluded the Ministry.
