Serbia: Coal production exceeds plans

LAZAREVAC – Coal production at open-pit mines exceeds the planned figures and it should return to the level recorded in 2013 by the end of the year after the catastrophic 2014 floods, Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Aleksandar Antic stated on Tuesday.

Our plans are being realised with excellent success in Kolubara, Kostolac and the Drmno pit, Antic told reporters after attending the saint patron day of coal miners. We have produced around 16.7 million tons of coal, which is by 400,000 tons more than originally planned, and by several percent more compared to 2014, Antic said.

He recalled that after the catastrophic floods in 2014, Serbia did not have any coal from the open-pit mine Kolubara for its thermal power plants.

Production has now completely stabilised and 80,000-85,000 tons of coal are produced daily and transported to local thermal power plants, Antic said.

These are very encouraging indicators for economic growth, Antic said.
