Conservation, restoration and revitalization will create conditions for the preservation of historical heritage buildings as certificates of identity of the city and the civilization culture range

At the XI International Conference on surface mining, which was held on Zlatibor in October 2014, Mr Nadica Drljevic, a mining engineer from the “Kolubara” Mining Basin, presented the paper “The protection of cultural heritage in the area of the future Radljevo OCM”.
From the active mines of “Kolubara” coal basin, about 52 percent of the total electricity generated in Serbia is obtained by excavated lignite combustion. To have this trend in the future, it is necessary for new open cast mines to be timely planed and operated. Within the defined boundaries of the future OCM “Radljevo” it is recorded the presence of different objects of immovable cultural goods, archaeological sites, buildings of architectural heritage, objects of folk architecture, monumental cemeteries and memorials, it is therefore important to determine the extent and level of protection for each of them, in order to reduce the negative impact on the population, living in the area under direct influence of the open cast mine.
The significance of cultural goods and objects that exist in the area of the future mine “Radljevo” considers a detailed analysis of their current situation, and definition of protection ways to be implemented. The general protection plan predicts activities necessary to carry out long-term protection of these facilities, thus will continue their significant during historic definition of all the structures that exist in this area. Conservation, restoration and revitalization will create conditions for the preservation of historical buildings as certificates of identity of the city and the civilization culture range.
.

It is therefore very important to carry out all necessary actions for the protection of these objects of cultural heritage and resources, for the sake of existing and future residents related to this area, and in order to preserve the national consciousness and history in general.
