Slovenia and Croatia may build the Krško 2 nuclear power plant
, NewsAfter the joint nuclear power plant “Krško”, Slovenia and Croatia could jointly build another nuclear power plant “Krško 2”. Officials from the two countries said both countries are ready to participate in the possible construction of a new nuclear power plant.
Slovenia and Croatia have already participated in the construction of the “Krško” nuclear power plant, which is half owned by the energy companies of the two countries, and the messages of Slovenian ministers and state officials that Slovenia intends to build “NEK 2” have been accepted these days.
Namely, the Croatian Minister of Energy Tomislav Ćorić said that Croatia would not mind getting a stable and relatively large source of electricity from the second block of the Krško nuclear power plant.
Croatia, as a co-owner of a nuclear power plant and a neighbouring country, is currently participating in a public debate on the cross-border impact of the project, Ćorić added.
The co-ownership relationship between the Krško nuclear power plant between Slovenia and Croatia has not passed without disagreements in recent years, and the issue of waste storage, which is also a problem in relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, is currently unresolved.
In this regard, Croatian Minister Ćorić reiterated that Slovenia’s offer for a joint warehouse in Vrbina is not acceptable to Croatia for reasons already known. The main thing is that Croatia would not be able to store all the remaining radioactive waste there.
