Terna to complete Montenegro-Italy power cable laying in H1’19
, NewsItalian electricity transmission system operator Terna expects to complete the laying of a power transmission cable linking Montenegro to Italy by the middle of next year, the CEO of the company, Luigi Ferraris, said.
“The project has a strategic importance for the region, as it will represent the first interconnection of Montenegro to Italy and Europe,” Ferraris said speaking through an interpreter in a video file posted on the website of Montenegrin public broadcaster RTCG on Wednesday.
The launch of the cable will contribute to the improvement of the infrastructure on the Balkans, Ferraris said after a meeting with Montenegrin president Milo Djukanovic in Rome.
The power interconnection will have a transfer capacity of 600 MW and not 1,200 MW as initially planned, Ferraris told analysts during the presentation of the company’s 2017 financial results, according to Italian media reports published in March.
The undersea connection between Italy and Montenegro represents a link of the 400 kV Trans-Balkan Electricity Corridor, connecting Serbia, Bosnia and Montenegro to the European Union grid.
