The Serbian rendering plant is closed, it will no longer pollute the air in Zrenjanin
, NewsThe verdict banning the work of the Zrenjanin rendering plant was passed for the third time in the repeated trial in the Commercial Court in Zrenjanin.
The Commercial Court in Zrenjanin banned the work of the company Prekon for five years. Prekon, better known as the Zrenjanin rendering plant, polluted the air that was inhaled by tens of thousands of Zrenjanin residents with an unpleasant smell, and the ban would not have happened without persistent local activism.
The long-standing problem of the stench from Prekon’s plant encouraged the citizens to form the Stop Rendering Association and act through other organizations. The stench was felt by more than half of the inhabitants of Zrenjanin, and the problem existed for more than ten years.
This victory is a confirmation of the importance of perseverance in the fight. The Stop rendering plant Association held a series of protests against the rendering plant this summer and launched a petition and bombarded all levels of government with petitions. Thanks to activities like these, Precon’s plant was stopped in mid-August by a temporary solution.
