A study for a Chinese tire factory in Serbia should be rejected
, NewsThe organization civic organization Građanski preokret from Zrenjanin said in a statement that the study on the assessment of the impact of the Linglong tire factory on the environment should be rejected for formal and substantive reasons, and stated 10 reasons why they believe that the study is deficient.
They consider that the formal reason for the rejection is that the public hearing was not held in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Environmental Impact Assessment and the Rulebook on the Procedure of Public Insight, Presentation and Public Hearing on the Environmental Impact Assessment Study. When it comes to the content deficiencies of the study, they claim that the distance of the residential settlement from the factory complex has been reduced. This means that “precise field measurements have not been performed”, as well as that it is not stated in which way and with which instruments air pollution by combustion products will be measured.
“It has not been considered how the pollution of the environment, and especially of 240 bird species in the Carska Bara reserve only two kilometers away, will be affected by hundreds of trucks with their noise, exhaust fumes and dust, which will bring raw materials and take away finished products from the factory every day,”.
“The study is full of general points and unfounded claims,” they conclude and call on the Provincial Secretariat for Urbanism and Environmental Protection of AP Vojvodina to reject that study, which was submitted by the investor Linglong.
