Approval of HPP Janjici project in Bosnia

, News

The City Council of Zenica voted to promote the project for the construction of hydropower plant Janjici on the Bosna river as a project of public interest, thus greatly easing its realization in the coming years. Zenica Mayor Fuad Kasumovic said that power utility EPBiH agreed to build the HPP several years ago and the failure to promote the project would cost the City of Zenica several million euros following the possible lawsuit filed by EPBiH.

HPP Janjici should have power output of 13.3 MW and annual output of 68.25 GWh of electricity. In the second half of March 2014, the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted a decision on granting the concession for construction of HPP Janjici to state-owned power utility EPBiH. The concession was granted in accordance to the voluntary bid of EPBiH. The company is obliged to pay one-time fee of 0.8 million euros, which is 2.3 % of the overall investment. The Government also set the annual concession fee of 2.4 % of the annual income from electricity sales and ancillary services. In the beginning of April 2014, Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina approved the signing of 30 million euros loan with German KfW Bank for the construction of HPP Janjici. The maturity of the loan is 15 years, with grace period of four years. EPBiH included the HPP Janjici project in its 2019-2021 business plan.
