BiH; Coal-fired power plant Tuzla invested EUR 125 million in ecological projects
, NewsThermal Power Plant Tuzla has invested EUR 125 million into ecological projects from 1996 to date. Total investment in the past year amounted to EUR 4.4 million, of which EUR 1.1 million or nearly 25% for environmental projects.
“The result of upgrading electro-filter facilities, installing pneumatic ash transport, cooling tower’s overhaul, closing the return waters from slag dumps and other investments is the reduction of solid particles by 78 percent in 2017 compared to 2010 and the reduction of water pollution by 97 percent compared to 2014 year,” director of TPP Tuzla Izet Džananović said.
He said that the Environmental Impact Assessment Study for the construction of the flue gas desulphurization facility for units 5 and 6 is finished and is currently being analyzed by the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
“The strategic goal of power utility Elektroprivreda Bosne i Hercegovine, which operates TPP Tuzla, is to build unit 7, which will replace units 3 and 4, and which, unlike these two units, will be technologically more advanced and environmentally friendly,” he said.
Džananović announced that the analysis of the impact on the air quality in the Tuzla basin will be prepared, with data on the individual participation of air polluters. The analysis will be conducted by the Faculty of Science, University of Tuzla.
In order to fulfill its legal obligations, TPP Tuzla last year for water protection, forest functions use, and air pollution fees as well as from company revenues paid EUR 4.2 million to the Environmental Protection Fund of the Federation of BiH, Tuzla Canton and the City of Tuzla.
TPP’s payments reached EUR 30 million from the date these laws entered into force until 2017.
TPP Tuzla in 2017 generated 3,472,267 MWh of electricity and 115,665 MWh of thermal energy and technological steam, while coal consumption reached 3.8 million tonnes.
