Bosnia: Emissions of greenhouse gases reduced by 17 %

According to the Bosnian Agency for Statistics, Bosnia and Herzegovina recorded a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the waste sector. In the period from 2008 to 2015, the level of emissions was reduced by about 17 %.

According to Eurostat data, from 1990 to 2014, greenhouse gas emissions in the 28 EU member states have been reduced by 22.9 %. The international community has set the overall goal of reducing global greenhouse gas emissions in order to mitigate the consequences of climate change.Accordingly, in its Europe 2020 Strategy, the European Union has defined that greenhouse gas emissions should be reduced by 20 % by 2020 and by 40 % by 2030, compared to the level of emissions in 1990.

Each EU member state has defined its own objectives and monitors their implementation.Since 2008, BiH Agency for Statistics calculates, in accordance with international standards, greenhouse gas emissions in the waste sector with the aim that the country, through its planning and program activities, contributes to mitigating the consequences of climate change.
