Bosnia’s Stanari TPP on track to be synchronized with grid in Nov

Banja Luka(Bosnia and Herzegovina)– The constructon of the 300 MW Stanari thermal power plant (TPP) in Bosnia is on track for the first megawatts of power to be supplied to the grid later this year, EFT Rudnik i Termoelektrana Stanari, the company developing the project, said on Wednesday.

The contracted construction period is 45 months, but works are four months ahead of plan with the thermal power plant scheduled to be synchronised wth the grid in November, a spokesperson for EFT Rudnik i Termoelektrana Stanari, an EFT Group company, told SeeNews in an email.

EFT was awarded a concession to develop the Stanari TPP project in 2008. The construction works on the power station, located near the Stanari coal mine in the area of the town of Doboj, began in 2012. The main building contractor is China’s Dongfang.

The plant will have an annual production of 2,000 GWh while the annual coal consumption is planned at 2.3 million t.

The total cost of the project is 550 million euro ($608.4 million) with some 85% of funds having so far been utilised in the construction, EFT told SeeNews.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is made up of two autonomous entities, the Serb Republic and the Muslim-Croat Federation.

The spokesperson said the company expects to receive a license to trade and supply electricity on the territory of Bosnia from the energy regulator of the Serb Republic by September and soon after that a temporary license for international trade in electricity from the energy regulator of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Stanari coal basin is situated some 70 km east of Banja Luka, in central Bosnia and Herzegovina. EFT has been operating the mine since May 2005.
