The Bulgarian Atomic Forum (Bulatom) urges the government to go ahead with the construction of a new nuclear unit. Bulatom will send its recommendations and views in a letter to the Prime Minister, the President and the Chairman of the National Assembly, Stanislav Georgiev, speaker for Bulatom said.

“It is vital for us as a guild that any of the planned new nuclear units – at Kozloduy NPP or the Belene NPP, gets underway. If a decision is not taken now, the nuclear sector in Bulgaria will be doomed and will face a silent shutdown”, Georgiev said, as quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio.

The annual conference organised by Bulatom took place last week June 3-5. It also emphasised the importance of the operation period extension of units 5 and 5 at Kozloduy NPP, which is the country’s only operating nuclear station.
