Bulgaria: RES Feed-In Tariffs Are Not Excessive State-Aid
, NewsThe EC has not yet decided on the Bulgarian regulator’s complaint against the obligation of Bulgarian power incumbent NEK to buy the electricity from AES Galabovo TPP and ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP
The feed-in tariffs for renewable energy in Bulgaria are not excessive state-aid. This is the official response of the European Commission to the Bulgarian Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, the regulator’s chairman Prof. Ivan Ivanof said during a conference of Bulgarian energy agencies.
“The support scheme has been approved by the EC, which means there is no excessive state-aid. It is considered that this support mechanism is compensated by the revenues from CO2 emissions trading”, Ivanov said.
In June 2014, the Bulgarian regulator filed two complaints with the EC – one regarding the obligation of Bulgarian power incumbent NEK to buy the electricity from AES Galabovo TPP and ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP under PPAs, and another concerning the RES feed in tariffs.
