EBRD seeks consultants for biomass-fired heating project in Bosnia

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development said it is inviting expressions of interest for a biomass-fired district heating project in Zavidovici, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the lender said.

The project will consist of rehabilitation of the closed solid waste landfill and construction of a transfer station with waste sorting, installation of a new biomass-fired district heating boiler and water distribution system improvements, the EBRD said in a procurement notice last week.

The EBRD intends to select and contract a consulting company to carry out a feasibility study, providing an independent assessment of the viability of the project from a technical, financial, environmental, legal, and regulatory perspective.

The deadline for the submission of expressions of interest is December 7.

The total project value is estimated at 8.1 million euro ($9.2 million), out of which it is expected that the EBRD will finance 5 million euro, the bank noted.

A total of 3 million euro is earmarked for the water supply element, 2.5 million euro for the solid waste landfill and 2 million euro for the district heating element, plus technical cooperation funds of 600,000 euro.

The funding source for the project is the Austrian DRIVE Fund.
