Enlarged quotas for renewable energy sources in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The quota for wind farms in Bosnia and Herzegovina increased from 460 to 840 MW and the quota for solar projects from 400 to 825 MW. This was determined by the decision of the State Energy Regulatory Commission (DERK) of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). They adopted a decision on the increase of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the country’s system.

Bosnian Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Stasa Kosarac said that this decision is a result of cooperation between the Ministry, DERK and electricity transmission system operator NOS BiH, which will enable the integration of significant installed capacities from renewable energy sources to the satisfaction of a large number of investors. Thus, in the future, the share of renewable sources in the production mix of BiH will significantly increase, and at the same time greenhouse gas emissions will decrease, which is the obligation of BiH under the Stabilization and Association Agreement in terms of energy transition and the policy of the Ministry.

He pointed out that, in addition to numerous benefits in the field of ecology, the integration of renewable electricity sources can meet consumption requirements at the local level, which gives additional impetus to the stability of the BiH power system and its flexibility. Also, it is unquestionable that investing in renewable energy projects will lead to the creation of new jobs and the improvement of the overall business climate in BiH.

He appealed to all institutions to, within the scope of their competencies, take activities aimed at increasing the production of electricity from renewable sources.
