Erosive processes are destroying bungalows on the Montenegrin coast, Ada Bojana

Due to the waves, the situation is very risky and at any moment, the objects closest to the sea are in danger of collapsing. Some bungalows are already in the water and under the influence of the waves, there was visible damage to the buildings, cracking of the walls and breaking of the basic structure. HTP “Ulcinjska rivijera” has warned on several occasions that they have been fighting the tides for many years.

“This year, we threw thousands of sandbags in front of the endangered buildings, placed large stones and did everything in accordance with our capabilities. However, this is a problem that requires the involvement of state institutions. Several meetings were held and there are projects forwarded by the profession. but while waiting for the procedures, huge material damage has already been caused to the facilities, “said the director of the company, Bojan Djakonovic.

A public call for the selection of contractors for the project of emergency interventions in order to stop the erosion of the beach in the western part of Ada Bojana was announced recently. The tender was announced in an urgent procedure, and the Public Company for the Management of Marine Assets will allocate 50,000 euros for this job.

On the order of the Montenegrin Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, Professor Dr. Sava Petkovic, in the meantime, determined urgent short-term measures that envisage filling with sand 750 meters of the shore in order to stop the erosion of the beach.

“The key object for preventing further erosion is the naper at the western end of Ada Bojana. The role of the naper is to keep all the poured amounts of sand along the most endangered section of the beach,” said Petkovic.

He claims that previous experiences in the world have shown that the built spokes are very efficient in terms of expanding the beach and stopping erosive processes. These measures should ensure that the average width of the beach, per embankment, is about 45 meters. So far, the application of sand has not given results, because under the influence of the waves, the poured quantities quickly end up in the sea again.

The association of owners of buildings on the river Bojana, a group of citizens and fans of Ada Bojana held several protest rallies to warn of the catastrophic situation in which the coast of this river island has been brought. They demanded an urgent cessation of sand extraction from the riverbed, until the impact on the disappearance of beaches and possible damage to biodiversity is determined.
