, NewsThe municipality of Gevgelija informed that nearly 20.000 citizens will have a chance to vote next Sunday in a referendum on whether to allow opening of two gold mines in the Kozuf mountain west of the city.
Two Macedonian companies have applied for gold mining concessions along the Konjska river. City Council is largely opposed to the concessions and some council-members as well as environmental groups have pushed against the proposal. The referendum will offer a “for” or “against” option.
