Hungary’s MOL to set foot on solar market, plans 18.4 MWp
, NewsHungarian oil and gas company MOL Group will enter the solar market with plans to build 18.38 MWp of solar parks at three own sites.
The photovoltaic capacity will be installed in Tiszaujvaros, Szazhalombatta and Fuzesgyarmat, where MOL has a petrochemical plant, a refinery and other facilities, it said on Thursday. The solar electricity will meet a portion of its own power requirements.
The solar projects will be implemented as part of the company’s 2030 strategy for the deployment of alternative energy technologies and preparation for “beyond the fuel age”.
MOL expects to complete construction of the PV parks, which will be tied to its local internal medium-voltage distribution grid, by end-2018. Their output will be enough to supply over 9,000 households and will help avoid 9,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
“At MOL we recognised that solar power will play an important role in the future energy systems, and thus we started to build our industrial capabilities by tapping into this dynamically growing business,” said Sandor Fasimon, MOL Group’s chief operating officer.
