Macedonia’s gross electricity output increases 27% y/y in March

Macedonia’s gross electricity production increased by 27% year-on-year to 551,403 MWh in March, the national statistical office, Makstat, said on Wednesday.

Net electricity output added 30% year-on-year to 522,961 MWh in March, Makstat said in a statement.

Thermal power plants contributed the largest portion of gross domestic electricity production, generating 238,950 MWh, 26% less than in March 2017.

Hydro power plants followed with 228,497 MWh in the third month of the year, up 173% compared to the same month of 2017.

Combined cycle heat and power plants generated 70,110 MWh in March, up from 9,191 MWh a year earlier.

Electricity generated by wind parks decreased by 32% year-on-year to 7,280 MWh, while biogas plants’ output rose 15% to 4,844 MWh. Solar parks produced 1,722 MWh of electricity, down 16% on the year.

Macedonia’s electricity imports decreased by an annual 10% to 208 974 MWh in March, while electricity exports increased to 32,145 MWh from 1,738 MWh in March 2017.

Distribution losses increased 11.5% on the year to 84,934 MWh in March.
