Romania’s renewable energy capacity reaches 5,163 MW at the end of Q1
, NewsThe renewable energy production capacities in Romania reached a total installed power of 5,163 MW at the end of March 2016, according to local power grid operator Transelectrica.
The capacity is 3.6 times higher than that of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant, reports local Agerpres.
The renewable energy capacities included wind parks with an installed power of 3,129 MW, solar plants with a total capacity of 1,343 MW, small hydro power plants totaling 588 MW, and biomass projects of 103 MW.
At the end of last year, the renewable energy production capacities totaled 5,142 MW.
The renewable energy producers get green certificates that they sell on a specialized market, for additional revenues besides the energy they sell. All the consumers in Romania, including by the population, pay for the green certificates in the final electricity bill.
In 2016, the mandatory quota for green energy at national level amounts to 12.15% of the gross electricity consumption.
