Serbia is already running projects for increasing energy efficiency in public buildings in cooperation with local municipalities, with total funds of 4.2 million euros in 2019. The Government is planning to launch an energy efficiency fund for households in 2021, said Aleksandar Antic Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining.

Minister Antic explained that the establishment of the fund in cooperation with the European Commission should be completed by the end of the year, with the first projects being financed in early 2021. Its role will be primarily to co-finance and support the execution of energy efficiency projects such as the insulation, carpentry works and thermo-technical segments of residential buildings. Total available funds within the program will be around 20 million euros.

According to Minister Antic, estimated energy savings from these projects amounted to around 2.3 million kWh a year, and that the reduction of the emission of carbon-dioxide amounted to around 1,200 tons per year. The consumption of energy in building after the implementation of energy efficiency measures has been reduced by 40 %.
