Serbia’s EPS to boost capacity of Djerdap 2 HPP
, NewsState-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije has said it plans to increase the capacity of all ten power units of Djerdap 2 hydropower plant in the next ten years.
The company intends to increase the capacity of each of the ten power units of Djerdap 2 to 32 MW from 27 MW, overhauling one unit per year, the managing director of EPS, Milorad Grcic said in a statement on Friday.
“In this way, we will have an additional power production capacity of 50 MW on the Danube,” Grcic said in the statement.
The Djerdap hydropower complex, located in the Iron Gate gorge on the Danube river, was built jointly by Serbia and Romania and commissioned in the 1970s. The Serbian part of the complex comprises Djerdap 1 and Djerdap 2 HPPs with an installed capacity of 1,058 MW and 270 MW, respectively.
In October, EPS said it completed an overhaul of the A1 turbine of Djerdap 1. The company invested 32 million euro ($37.7 million) to increase the capacity of the turbine to 195 MW from 178 MW, Grcic said at the time.
