State-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije expects the construction of a third unit in Kostolac B coal-fired power plant to start next spring, the company’s managing director Milorad Grcic said.
The construction of the unit is a very complex process consisting of 14 phases, with total investment projected at $715 million, Grcic told public broadcaster Radio Televizija Srbije on Thursday.
The project for the construction of a 350 MW unit was officially launched on January 4 when EPS made an advance payment to the contractor, Chinese company CMEC, in accordance with a deal signed in November 2013.
Funds for the project are being provided under a preferential loan from China’s Exim bank backed by guarantees extended by the Serbian government.
The 700 MW Kostolac B is part of thermal power and coal mining group TE-KO Kostolac, located on the Danube river, in eastern Serbia. TE-KO Kostolac operates another thermal power plant, Kostolac A, with installed capacity of 310 MW.
