Serbia’s EPS launches Nikola Tesla A desulphurisation project
, NewsSerbia’s state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije said it has launched a project for installation of a flue gas desulphurisation unit at thermal power plant Nikola Tesla A.
The project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2022 and is in line with the efforts of the government to meet the environmental requirements of the European Union, EPS quoted energy minister Aleksandar Antic as saying in a statement on Monday.
“Nikola Tesla A produces about 10 billion kWh of electricity annually, which means that with the desulphurisation project we protect about a third of the electricity production in Serbia,” Antic said.
The installation of the system will allow EPS to reduce sulphur dioxide emissions to 7,800 tonnes from 74,000 tonnes annually, EPS said.
In September, EPS said it signed a 167 million euro ($197.9 million) agreement with Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems to build a flue gas desulphurisation unit at Nikola Tesla A. The desulphurisation facility will serve units A3, A4, A5 and A6 of the the power plant and will use a limestone wet scrubbing system. The deadline for completing the construction works is 42 months.
Serbian companies will participate in 50% of the works as subcontractors, the representative of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Hideto Kawata, said in the statement.
