Suez wins contarct for sludge-to-energy plant in Romania
, NewsThe city of Bucharest, Romania has selected a consortium composed of SUEZ, FCC – Aqualia to modernize a wastewater treatment plant and to build a treatment and sludge-to-energy plant in Glina, located southeast of the capital. This contract is worth €111 million for the consortium as a whole and €45 million for SUEZ.
The wastewater treatment plant in Glina will be rehabilitated and extended by FCC – Aqualia, in order to ultimately provide wastewater treatment services for the equivalent of 2.4 million inhabitants. The sludge will be transported to the future treatment and sludge-to-energy plant built by SUEZ, with a treatment capacity of 173 metric tons of dry matter per day.
This plant will have two treatment lines to recover the sludge in accordance with national and European standards. Degremont Thermylis technologies, developed by SUEZ, will be used to significantly reduce the volume of the sludge produced by the wastewater treatment plant by drying and then recovering energy, with a production of electricity used in part to power the plant.
The 28-month construction project will be completed at the end of 2019.
This new project in favour the circular economy represents a further step forwards in the Group’s development in this high-potential region.
