Sweden is helping decarbonisation in Bosnia and Herzegovina
, NewsDue to excessive use of energy and other sources of pollution, 99.6 percent of the population is exposed to PM 2.5 air pollution, which exceeds the guidelines of the World Health Organization.
Sweden will allocate 14 million convertible marks (7.15 million euros) for two projects aimed at reducing the impact of excessive energy consumption on the environment and improving the energy efficiency of public and residential buildings in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to be implemented through the United Nations Development Program Nations (UNDP), it was announced on Thursday, January 28, from UNDP BiH.
“The level of air pollution in BiH must be reduced in order to save lives and the environment. Increasing energy efficiency is key in the fight against air pollution. It also contributes to positive economic and social benefits for citizens,” said Swedish Ambassador to BiH Johanna Strömquist.
The average energy consumption in public and residential buildings in BiH is over five times higher than the annual energy consumption in buildings located in similar climatic conditions in the countries of the European Union, it is stated in the announcement.
