After the news that an oil refinery worth 2.6 billion dollars should be built in Smederevo, the Association of Citizens “Free City of Smederevo” asked the authorities to provide additional information on the construction of the refinery without delay.

“Given that this is an investment that could cause great environmental pollution, and Smederevo is already one of the most polluted cities, citizens want to know whether the construction of an oil refinery in Smederevo is a project supported by the Serbian government, which institution is made a decision to build a refinery in Smederevo and which company is the investor in the construction “, it is stated in the announcement.

The community of citizens of Smederevo also asks who are the “representatives of Chinese investors” interested in building the refinery, who were at the meeting with the representatives of the National Council for Cooperation with Russia and China chaired by Tomislav Nikolic, and whether the representatives of the City of Smederevo also attended the meeting.

They also added the question of which companies from Germany and the USA will participate in the production of equipment for the refinery and on which exact location it will be built.

“The community gathered around the group ‘Free City of Smederevo’, which gathers more than 20,000 members on Facebook, will insist on answers from day to day, and if they are absent, we will seek our rights in all legitimate ways of civil struggle,” the statement said.
