The Minister of Economy, Dragica Sekulić, handed over the Concession Act for the construction of HPP Komarnica to the Executive Director of Elektroprivreda Crne Gore Igor Noveljić.

The construction of HPP Komarnica is planned on the Lonci profile on the river of the same name, with an arch-concrete dam 171 m high and an elevation of normal deceleration 811 m above sea level. HPP Komarnica will have an installed capacity of about 172 MW with an expected annual production of up to 213 GWh of electricity.

“I believe that we ourselves are not sufficiently aware of the significance of this achievement. In the previous 110 years, the power of our power plants has reached just over 1,000 megawatts, and in the last four years alone, we have put into operation over 150 megawatts of green energy. In other words, in these four years, our energy has grown four times faster than its hundred-year average, and more importantly, in the same period, including today’s 172 MW, we have agreed to build a new 552 green megawatts, “said Minister Sekulic.

The executive director of EPCG, Igor Noveljić, pointed out that the national energy company is ready to enter the investment in the construction of the first large hydropower facility after four decades.

“Compared to the existing HPP Piva, with an installed capacity of 342 MW, for whose needs the 220 m high Mratinje arch concrete dam was built, one of the most famous dams in Europe and the world, we will build HPP Komarnica, a front power plant with an installed capacity of 172 MW and equally impressive dam 171 m high, respecting all environmental protection guidelines without disturbing the natural water regime in the area of the town of Savnik and without negative impacts that would endanger the use of the Nevidio canyon. HPP Komarnica will be built by a thousand workers, in an area where there are no facilities, households or infrastructure, while after its commissioning, a hundred new jobs will be created. “Our intention is to, in cooperation with the local self-governments of the municipalities of Šavnik and Plužine, during the construction period, implement a program of professional training of staff so that the locals in that area are mostly employed in the hydroelectric power plant,” said Noveljić.
