The island of Pag in Croatia will soon get a new solar power plant

, News

The solar power plant will be built near the town of Novalja on the island of Pag, while its cost is estimated at some 10 million euros. Lika-Senj county will get a new solar power plant with an estimated electricity generation of 25 GWh per year, immediately after the end of the tourist season. The investor is RP Global, which already built two wind farms in Croatia – 43.7 MW Danilo and 34.2 MW Rudine and this would be its first solar project in the country.

The company is planning to increase its renewable portfolio by investing in the construction of new plants with combined installed capacity of over 100 MW.

Bojan Reščec from RP Global says that the solar power plant in Novalja is part of very ambitious plans in Lika-Senj County.

“It is still difficult to talk about concrete numbers, but we hope that in the years to come we will talk about three-digit megawatts and millions of euros of investment,” says Reščec.

The investment should bring the local government about 250,000 kuna (33.3 million euros) per year.

At the end of 2019, Croatia was still below 50 MW in large-scale solar power plants, but there is interest from large investors for more than 600 MW.
