Turkey to be the regional maintenance hub for GE turbines
, InvestorsFortune Türkiye – Active in Turkey in a number of fields, US-based industrial multinational General Electric (GE), has opened a maintenance facility in the country to service gas turbines used in power generation and mechanical drive applications.
The eighth of its kind in the world, the GE Aeroderivative Gas Turbine Service Center in Istanbul will serve as a maintenance hub for installed GE turbines in the country as well as the entire Middle East region comprising 10 other markets.
Located near the Sabiha Gokcen Airport in Istanbul’s Anatolian side, the center’s services cover engine disassembly and assembly, inspection, power turbine and low pressure turbine exchange, hot section exchange and engine reassembly. In addition to maintenance services, the facility is going to provide equipment support for the entire Middle East, making Turkey a regional maintenance hub.
GE’s operations in Turkey date back to 1948, beginning with the establishment of a light bulb factory. GE Turkey today has six facilities employing over 600 people in a wide range of businesses including jet engine and locomotive production. GE’s healthcare unit is headquartered in Turkey, running an 80-country market from Istanbul.
